This directorate was created for construction of new Roads, Bridges, Flyovers, Road over Bridges (ROBs) at Railway crossings, Road Underpasses, Railway Underpasses and there maintenance to improve the road connectivity system of the State.

This directorate is dedicated

• To make durable roads by adopting modern techniques guided by the latest code of practice and ensuring compliance with environment friendly considerations.
• To improve/ upgrade roads, by constructing new bridges/ ROBs/ Flyovers/ Road underpasses / Railway underpasses and their maintenance.
• To augment capacity of the roads by widening & strengthening of the roads.
• To improve road connectivity by at least 2 lane roads between (a) all adjacent district headquarters, (b) within a district, from district headquarter to the Administrative sub division headquarters and (c) within a district, from one Administrative sub division headquarter to another sub division headquarter.
• To ensure road safety by improving the existing road geometry and by providing adequate traffic safety measures.
• To rectify black spots by adopting traffic calming measures for eliminating the road accident and to provide smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow.
• Health monitoring of the existing bridges.
• To rehabilitate/ replace the old dilapidated/ weak bridges. National Highways Wing and Road and Building Research Institute (R&BRI) are under this directorate.

A number of sound and expert Civil Engineers are working under this directorate to improve the Road connectivity system within the State.
